Does Favia encrust to the rocks once they grow off the frag plug? I have a frag of X-Mas Favia that one side of it is almost off the plug. Right now it is on a frag rack but I was going to move it to the rockwork to make room on the rack and so I can see it better. If I do this should I put it on a rock that can be taken out if it eeds to be fragged? Also how is it fragged?

Where ever the frag plug is sitting it will encrust over it and onto what it's sitting on. If it's on a rock it will encrust on a rock. To frag them off big rocks you will most likely need a bandsaw. If it's small you can use a dremel with diamond cutoff wheel.

The best way to continue fast growth of the frag is to position the plug so that it is flush with a rock formation for easy encrusting. I will cut off the bottom part of the plugs and glue them to surfaces to achieve this.

Also a wet tile saw is a very fast and effective way to frag things with thick skeletons. Just fill the resevoir with salt water

Now if they are are on the sand bed will they still grow? Will the growth be slower? I know with chalices everyone says they grow faster once they reach the sand because it is smooth. Is this true for favias as well?
