I have found, in 6 years of reefkeeping, it is inevitably lower light that maintains vivid coloration in favias. More often than not, that is; there are always exceptons, though.

Seems that is the case for most LPS. I always end up moving most stuff to the lower light. That and feeding more often helps a lot as well.
