Bit of a tank update. Figured out that the algae I’m growing is actually bryopsis. So I’m going to be getting some fluconzanole to wipe that out here soon. Being that I’ve only gotten corals from 2 places, one being the local fish store and the other wwc, its probably coming from the local place. So if I want to keep getting cheap frags from the local I’m going to have to finally finish the stand so I can set up a quarantine. I think I also spotted a red planaria 2 times in the last 2 weeks. So I’m considering getting a 6 line to keep anything at bay but worried about the size of the tank.
As for corals I’m still seeing good growth. My stylo has full PE and seems to be the fastest growing coral in the tank. I’m seeing new heads pop up on all my micromussas except for the new one obviously. But the new one that looks a little brown when I put it in is getting a nice assortment of colors as time goes by. And my psammo that I thought was going to die also has full PE and very little bleached parts left on it.

Also figured I’d share the loght schedule for the AI Prime. Seems to be working well for my setup.

A few updates, on October 24 I had my first child. I took a month off with him and my wife. Now that I’m back to work the tank doesn’t get as much attention but still gets enough.

I finally replaced the cheap power head with a maxspect gyre. I have it set up to run in forward and reverse. So far after about 16 hours of run time I like it. It is far quieter than the other pump. The fan on my AI Prime is actually louder except for random occasions when it make a small electronic buzz noise for a second. Only thing I don’t like is it’s kicking up sand in the front. I want to turn it down but want to keep enough flow so I can grow more SPS on the upper levels of rock work.

I also got some fluconazol. Did a water change to suck a lot out. Added in the flucon so the bryopsis should be gone soon.
Now a little more background about me. I build elevators for a living. Wires have also bothered me for as long as I can remember. At work I’m dealing with hundred of wires and trying to keep them looking somewhat nice. So the state of wiring under my tank has bothered me for awhile.

So after replacing some screws with shorter ones and some work with zip ties I got it looking half way decent.

Yah we’re sleeping pretty good. My parents keep coming over and informing us they don’t feel too good as they’re leaving though so he picked up a mild cold last week. As for the cable management it’s not really necessary so it took me a little motivation. But I’m happy I finally did it. And I’m holding off on the 6 line. As much as I loved how my old one was constantly hunting and swimming through the rocks I don’t won’t a big bio load on the tank. Being I’m running skimmerless and would really like to go more into sps since I couldn’t even keep birds nest alive in my last one. But the wife and I have been talking about upgrading but that won’t be for at least a couple years.

Nothing to really report. Looks the same. There Have been a few good sized chunks floating around but that’s probably because the new flow.

Congrats on the baby !!!

Tank is looking good so far. Note on the Fluco, keep doing it for a little after you notice the last bit. It will come back quick.

When I battled it for awhile a few tanks back. Stopped treating the tank after I saw it was good, like 2-3 weeka later BOOM it came right back and had to buy more Fluco.

Day 5. Almost completely gone. Very small parts left where the bunches were growing and the patch right at the filter outlet is hanging on but is all grey.

Day 6. Almost no signs of bryopsis except for 2 small patches that are still grey and look like they are dying.

And you can see from the wave at the top that even at 30% that pump sill moves a ton of water for a 14 gallon tank. I currently have it running on alternating gyre. Forward is 30% with 2 second ramp up, 8 second run and 15 second ramp down. Same running times in reverse but reverse is set at 80%. I would go higher but it starts making noise. It also stalls going into forward rotation probably 1 out of every 10 cycles.

Day 12. Been real busy at work and school so haven’t had time to update. Can’t see any more bryopsis. Although a new fuzzy green algae started coming up at the pump outlet. I’m sure nutrients are out of control right now.

Bad news, found 4 zoa eating nudibranchs. Got them out and gave them a 130 degree freshwater bath for their trouble. So a six line wrasse is definitely in the works. And if there happens to be anyone reading this from the Sacramento, CA area. I would highly recommend to stay away from aquarium depot.

Been awhile since I’ve updated. Nothing really new. I was smart enough to keep carbon running while I was using flucon so it started coming back. So back on that. But corals are still growing good. Stylo is about to encrust onto the main rock work. Only about 16th inch away. Other corals are showing noticeable growth too.

Got a six line wrasse and a new zoa today. There was aggression from the clowns for about 10 minutes but now at times I see all three side by side with no aggression. I’ll get some pictures once the wrasse doesn’t dive into the rocks when I walk up and the zoas open.

Well this is the best picture I could get. Still pretty nervous. Never really comes out of the rocks if I’m around the tank at all. The 6 line is coming out of the center arch.

Zoas are open. Still need to adjust to the tank but they are crazy bright.
