I am having a hard time feeding this guy can anybody with experience help

Use tongs when feeding silversides and gently wiggle it about 5-6" away from the rhinopias. It may take some effort to get it to take frozen food. You may need to utilize live food for some time. Ghost shrimp and cheap cardinals work well.
