Got a filefish in my 26g cube to take care of aiptasia. Boy did it clear the aiptasia quick. I also really love the fish he’s cool. Or she. Problem is once the Aiptasia was gone, my Duncan started not looking great. The polyps seem to be getting eaten. I will take the sacrifice of a Duncan (it was one of my best corals unfortunately). The filefish hasn’t touched my hammer or acans luckily. I’m hoping it stays that way.

I’m upgrading to a UNS R90 in the next several months, and will likely transition to mostly SPS. So no more Duncan’s for me. I’m hoping it doesn’t get an appetite for my hammer or acans and I can keep some LPS in the bigger system. It’s a biota filefish from a LFS.

What has yalls experience been with filefish and LPS?

Unfortunately filefish can definitely get a taste for different types of coral the longer they stay in the tank. I always liked file fish, they look so cool and great personalities. I just never had luck long term no matter how many times I tried. They always nipped at everything from SPS to LPS over time so I stopped putting them in my tanks. Ofcourse it could be a different experience for you so I would just monitor closely, keep the tank fed and see how it goes.
