Hi

Could be all of the above. Not sure what color is what. I would guess darker is better mood, lighter more on defensive side. But just my guess.

My changes dark when he blends into rocks and when he eats. Light when he freaks out.

always cool to play where my file fish now

He is,

Was he sold as a captive bred ORA or aptasia file fish? I have seen the ORA look a bit lighter.

How long you have him and what is the diet. I am thinking it is a female and color is normal and looks fine.

let’s just confirm it’s diet

Flake really is not the best in this case. Frozen mysis or other meaty foods along with frozen algae. Mine actually eats sheets of Nori with my tangs. if you have Selcon or Zoecon that is always good to add a drop or 2 to the flake. Try to feed small amounts a few time a day if you can.

It may take a while for her to go to the aptasia. Mine didn’t touch any for about a month. Next thing I new about 50 were gone in about a week.
