Filter Socks Question

Hey reefers, I have a question about filter socks. I currently have a 2 chamber 40 gallon sump running on my 150 with about 20 lbs of LR in the fuge area with some chaeto, and about 10 lbs of LR in the reservoir area where the water comes out from the bubble trap. I do not have a filter sock on my overflow output because a person more experienced than I advised that you really don't need a filter sock, and it can end up trapping your pods in it. I have about 4 dragonets in my tank so a healthy pod population is important to me (and more so them). Anyway, I was wondering if there were any major drawbacks to this set-up I should be concerned with, or is my set-up fine and this is one of those less is more situations. It's really up to you bud. Mandarins and dragonets primarily eat pods that live in the rock and sand. Id expect that the pods my filter sock filter out are the ones that swim in the water column. I prefer to have my socks because it really helps keep the debris stuck in water column down to a minimum.

I run socks on my fish tank but not my reef tank and both are full of pods, so I would say it doesnt really have much effect on them

I use to run them but gave up. A little more work then I would like. Simple siphon to clean it out works for me.
