Order came on Sat, they included a free sediment filter to try out with a coupon for 10% off my next order. I'm good with 12 for a while but if anyone wants to use it the code is ebay10 on ClearChoiceAquatics.com

I'll update after the first wash but they fell like every other sock I've used

Cool, free stuff is always fun. I've been using option 2 to clean my socks then just letting them airdry for a day or 2. I just cleaned mine last night, their getting pretty old now I may need to place an order.

Been using filter socks since I started the tank 3 years ago. I stopped at one time and went sockless but I needed to clean the skimmer a lot more often. I use 10 socks and swap them out when they get dirty and wash them when I'm down to the last one, doing that every month and a half was much easier than removing the skimmer to clean every month. I recently started to dose vinegar and the socks get clogged way sooner than before so I bought some mesh filter socks to try out.

I buy mine on amazon, I have 8 on hand and plan to get a couple more

@duffer - LOL, you have 8 mate, well I have around 58 of these nothing but pain in the butt filter socks. Let's try to come up with a solution so we dont have to deal with these socks and changing them out every 4 days. Someone really needs to come up with something a little better build then your Roller Mate, or Klir Filter, Bubble Mag and Clair.. I have friends with everyone these filters and they all complain about them... I myself was going to buy 2 Klir filter systems for my Synergy CL44 sump but after my friend told me about all of the problems he was having with his two.. No offense, it probably a great product but it did not work out so good for him, so I will be running just two 4'' filter cups with some filter floss and some media, no more then that....Filter socks are something long in the past. I am temping to try out the

I change mine every two weeks or before the have the water rise in the overflow since they are dirty. Works for me and my tank with no problems. I have 6 on hand and wash the first five when on the last. I use a washing machine to clean them. I run the cycle empty. Then run them through three cycles to ensure any detergent in the machine is gone and out of the socks. It may be excessive, but it's been working for 15 months. Also, the socks are still holding up. I get them from my LFS and they are well made.

And to put this in perspective, my display is only a 65 with one sock holder in the sump.

Why are filter socks $6.99 each? it seems excessive for what they are. Has anyone found any decent ones on Amazon or Ebay? I bought some from China and they were absolutely garbage, they came out of the washer in a big ball of fuzz.

how many on average are you do you keep on hand? I'm changing them every 2-3 days and i'm thinking of keeping like 10 and just store them in a bucket or something.

All I have is 4 and a cup. I put the cup and carbon in while I wash the others.

I do the wash thing, pretty close to the instructions you showed in the pic. I find them impossible to turn inside out though, I dunno how people manage to do that. I have 4 that came with the sumps, 4 from BRS, and 8 from Amazon. Might get a few more to extend my wash cycle a bit. I try really hard to change all 4 every 4 days, but I'm not always vigilant enough about it. I really should be, because they aren't effective after 3-4 days.
