I recently picked up a 50 gal tank from marketplace for free in the goal of setting it up soon. My hopes would be to add some kind of angelfish, a load of soft corals and some invertebrates. Everything that i would need i already have except for filtration. I was just wondering what exact setup you guys would use considering these since this is my second tank ever and felt r2r would know better than me.

Thank you and merry Christmas!

(Im also perfectly fine with DIY compartiments)

does it have a sump, or is it drilled for one? if not, you could do a high end canister, and just stay on that. I've done it before with a 135, and had less issues than I have now with a sump lol.
just an idea 🤔

This 65g uses only AquaClear 110 for filter and Corallife 160 for skimmer. No sump. Easy to maintain.

Get an oase thermo cannister if you can. It includes a pre filter making it super easy to clean, and also houses the heater so less equipment in the display. Take out the sponges in the compartments and will it with rock rubble or biological media.
I’d also then add any sort of HOB skimmer. Get one for cheap second hand. Where are you from ?

Ok I'll look into one of those. For the skimmer should i try to go name brand or does it not really matter? I saw some quality looking ones on amazon for about 80$cad. Im currently residing in Quebec

I picked up an aqua max 1.5 second hand for 30 euro. It was a machine. I only ran it for & hours during the night.
