Hello everyone, for my 20 gallon reef tank i have a aquaclear 70 on it. After discussing with so many people im still very indecisive on what i should use for filter media.. alot of people suggested chemi pure elite with filter floss while others suggested carbon and filter floss only. Some people said carbon and filter floss isnt enough while others say chemi pure elite will kill my tank. So im very confused at what i should do. Btw almost everyone who suggested these also reccomended i use specific media for specific situations im undergoing. For example to use purgeon if need. What do you guys think i should use for media??

There is a company that makes drop in filter baskets that can for a tunze skimmer and heater in it. They are specifically made for aquaclear hob. Google those. I can't remember the maker. I would just put live rock rubble in there though. The rock is the filter. Hob is just flow.

On my aquaclear tanks I really only ran floss and sponge with carbon.
IMO IME you don't really need a gfo yet or at least wait and see if you do need a nutrient export like the Gfo
Also As long as Aqua clear is getting a lot of funk built up in it and you clean it your good. If it's not it's not filtering.
Honestly the best thing I did was to use hob refugiums on the little tanks. $14 breeder box from Amazon with chato and an air pump. Keep it clean and you get nutrient export and a ph boost because of the air pump
Avoid rubble in both. It traps funk. If your willing to clean it it's cool though.
Edit. Don't for get the ato.

Yeah i was thinking hob refugium. But when i was planning this tank since im quite young and its in my room, my mom said i can do it but no sumps and nothing like a refugium. ( i was originally gonna do a sump. And yes i got the ato planned and circulation and lights.. basically everything. Was just curious on the filtration..

I use an ac70 on my 29 gallon and I won't sway you on which products to buy but I can tell you what works for me. Starting from the bottom of the basket I use the sponge that's made for it, seachem phosfiltrum, chemipure elite and then seachem de*nitrate. Once a week religiously I clean out the sponge. That's the one main thing you can't slack on is regularly cleaning the sponge or replace the floss if you choose to go that route.
