Now if only baby sitting was as rewarding.

Tangs are weird. That pbt could be the sweetest thing on earth. Sadly 90% aren't.
Yeah, I've stayed away from the powders specifically because of overarching additudes and their susceptibility to getting sick. Those two combined to me make a fish not worth having. This one really is gorgeous and regal

He caught my eye in a flash. I love powder tangs. But frrrr.... Other fish have to hold their ground.

They are fun to feed.

Two steps forward, get punched in the mouth.

This seems to have become my personal mantra when it comes to Torches. As soon as Torch Island starts looking Great, something happens.

Recently there have been a lot of changes to the big tank. A dozen euphyllia were added into the rocks, and torch Island fell over not once, but Twice due to snails bulldozing between the rock and the glass.

For two days I've been keeping an eye on this torch, which is my OG.

Over the course of 24 hours, it went from healthy and mid split to looking like this.

I pulled it to have a better look.

From this view, it has every indicator of a bacterial infection. Quickly receding tissue, exposed skeleton, and of course, brown goo.

Off with his head!! Not a call I make lightly on a splitting head as there is no way to tell if the guts are still connected or not. Still gotta happen. I went in at this angle not caring if I chopped into the guts of the bad head. It's coming off anyway. The intention was to remove that head and stay Far away from the tissue cavity of the still healthy head.

Post cut and aftercare.

30 minutes in iodine, then an hour sitting in 500 mg cipro.

This torch has been moved to the frag tank for observation, under approximately 50 par and light flow.

Preventatively, I will start a broad dose Cipro treatment on the tank tonight, after lights out, with the UV off.

Thanks for posting all that detail in case others ever find them selves in that situation. Bummer and I’m sorry. Hoping it bounces back and you don’t have any further issues in the DT

Thanks. I am as well. With these things, "patience is Not a virtue".

Euphyllia and mushrooms can degrade very quickly when exposed to certain bacteria and BJD Sucks. I've fought it and beat it before, but never really documented it from the beginning.

At this stage, I chose to mentally consider the infection to be systemic, as any other course could mean the lives of other coral.

Given the great work that AquaBiome has done with their testing, specifically with Cipro dosing, I'm convinced that broad dosing Cipro to the tank does Not harm beneficial bacteria, does not set off a mini cycle, does not nuke your sps and all of the other "known facts" that are thrown around at whim.

Pulling a coral is never an easy decision. Every one has been grown with love and pain. Sometimes things don't go right. I'm hoping to document THAT.

There isn't enough of "What to do when the defecation hits the oscillation"

Here's morning one after cutting

What do you use to make the cuts? I have tried bone cutters but on thicker stalks they don't seem to work well. Maybe I just need a sharper pair?
I'm a Dremel tool guy through and through. Band saws work as well and are better for thick cuts, or cutting rock, but for skeleton fragging, this is my go to.

Bone cutters are too blunt and often lead to crushing of the skeleton.

Picture yourself cutting a tree in half vertically. That’s what I did with bone cutters to my frogspawn in an attempt to cut horizontally. The bigger half is still kickin. Looks crazy seeing a full head form on half a stalk ha

I thought about posting me eels qt in fish disease.. All I could see was 100 vultures ripping my carcass apart. Definitely keeping my tank stuff in my build thread.

It does suck with some coral and life forms. You cannot sit it out and wait. I love torches.

I don't so much mind the vultures as I would rather present a complete picture with conclusion if I'm going to post something on the main board that borders on advice. . Keeping it here helps me keep it straight as things progress.
