How long do people keep their Dartfish and Firefish for? I know they’re prone to jumping and getting spooked by lots of stuff, but under ideal circumstances when they live, how long do people have them for?

I have 1 Scissortail Dartfish that is around 4 years old and 7 firefish that are going on 2 years. I think the longest I ever had a firefish live is around 3 years.

I will also add that the firefish that are in my lagoon tank jump daily and hit the "Jump Guard" which is 12 inches high. So far no fish has made it over the guard but i think it is just a matter of time before one makes the big leap.

I had one for 6 years before he died, he was big when I first got him so I don't know the total age,

3-6 years for firefish!

6 years and pretty big when you got it, I would guess it could have been 8 when it died. Likely that.

It seems that we don’t have a very good idea of how long they live because they’re too easily spooked and jump out.

Hope to hear from more that kept them for their full lifespan to get an idea of what’s possible.
