How do you tell when you have too much light? I got another light because the other didn't seem like it was coming, and it's a bit bigger. Should I put it on my tank or not? Note: Neither are dimmable.

Couple of updates- I got an algae scraper to clean the glass, new food (the Clownfish could not eat the flakes if his life depended on it!), and I got something that allows me to dim the light. Yay! I eliminated the need for a lid by placing the extra light on top of the aquarium (off, of course). I also got an all-important Turkey baster! Still battling the algae bloom, mixing up the sand every time the sand is covered in algae. I found a dead hermit crab even though I'm fairly sure all hermit crabs are accounted for. Doing a water change and testing today.

Also, I was think I mg about getting an BTA. Thoughts?
Generally it is recommended that a tank be stable for 6 months to a year before trying to keep one. That way all the kinks have been worked out. They are more sensitive to changes in water parameters. I'm picking mine up this week! I haven't had good luck with them in the past so wish me luck!

I know it would be early, but I was thinking about getting it early June. The reason I want him so early is because he will have a better choice of space and won't be competing with my corals.

That is a reasonable thought just be sure to get a couple full parameter checks to make sure nothing is swinging on you prior.

Thanks. This guy will have the benefit of going into a qt and some alone time while my tank goes fallow to adjust. My clown fish can be overbearing I think...

Update time! I have some not good, but not bad news. I seem to be having a copepod bloom. I know it's not bad, it'll die down, etc, but it's just unsightly. The algae bloom is dying down, but boy does my bicolor blenny poop! You can see it all over the tank, I try to use a turkey baster to suck it up every day. My mushroom might have split, I'm not sure. Its base sort of split and now there's this white blob just sort of sitting on the rock. Does the head sprout from that? My narissus snail isn't coming out, but he's still alive, I checked. Thanks!

Update! Got a new coral today, green clove polyps. Also did a water change. My blenny is getting bold, he nipped me twice as I was placing the coral. I'll test soon, too. I threw out my narissus snail, if it wasn't dead it was dying. I didn't want to release that much ammonia into the tank.

Update! I rearranged the rocks. I'm MUCH happier with this formation. My blenny has many more perches, and there are lots of new places to hide. Coral subjects to movement.

Can you get a close pic of your blenny? He looks a little skinny but it could be the pic

Ok he looks better in those shots. He must have been turned funny that made his head look much bigger than his body lol.

If you have a small desk fan, you can put one aimed at the tank or if you have the money you could get a chiller but for that small of a tank a fan should work just fine.

I don't want to have to turn my heater off in the summer for temperature stability, but I don't want to boil my tank. Thanks!
