First saltwater!

I recently set up a ten gallon nano and it's towards the end of cycling. My tank parameters for the past week or two have been:
pH: 8.1, 8.2, 8, 8.1, 8.1
Ammonia: 0.75, 0.5, 0.5, 0.5, 0.25
Nitrite: 0.05, 0.5, 1, 1.5, 1.75
Nitrate: 0, n/a, 10, 40, 60
I'll include a picture of today's test, HOB refugium, and the tank. I had another thread for a few days, but people stopped responding to questions I had. Follows are appreciated! My plan for stocking is a cleaner shrimp, sexy shrimp, a clown go by, and plenty of corals! My goal is to keep salinity at 1.024 specific gravity so that there's room for top off error. I'm exited for this weekend! By then my tank will be done cycling and I can get a clown goby, the cleanup crew, a cheap coral frag, and/ or macro algae.

Just tested again!
pH: 8.2
Ammonia: 0 ppm
Nitrite: 5 ppm
Nitrate: 40 ppm
Is it possible for nitrate to decrease and nitrite to increase? How low do my nitrite and nitrate levels to be for it to be safe for livestock? Thanks!

I would wait till everything is at 0 or dang close. I would do a decent sized water change and check it tomorrow.

i would wait a couple more weeks until it gets to zero and in a couple weeks id add just the cleanup crew first to see how they do and how your tank supports them then after they have been fine for about 3 weeks you could add a fish and a couple corals and keep going from there with a clowngoby you may beable to get another fish in a 10 id suggest a firefish or other small fish

Thanks for the advice. This weekend I'll probably hold off on fish and just get a clean up crew, macro algae, and maybe some xenia (they're basically weeds- they can hand a lot, can't they?.

Also, I'll do a huge water change on Friday and test on Saturday to see if the parameters are OK for life.

i dont know much about xenia but when i first started i made the mistake of getting a green chromis with my cleanup crew he died a few days later and then later on i had a second green chromis that got caught in an impeller so i havent had one since ive had better luck with a neon goby a clownfish and a firefish gobies seem to be hardy to me but see what others says to be absolutely sure on what to do

Welcome check the first few ingredients on the can if they first few are meat or algae go for it other said yeast or something along those line, that food is more for freshman.

I wouldnt only because it's tetra. Known source of too much phosphate. Personally, I like Rods food (frozen) and cobalt (flake)

Yeast is actually a good ingredient. You will look high and low for a fish food without yeast. It is basically 95% vitamins, especially B vitamins and 5% minerals.
