I was on a dive trip and met a couple who were talking about the fish and coral they saw on the dives that were in their tank. I told my husband on the way home that I wanted to research reef tanks and see what it takes to have one. A week later and hours upon hours of research I went to buy a 75g tank and went home with a 120g tank, 40g sump and everything needed to be successful!
Now, three months later I have coral, clowns, a goby and a firefish! Plus a qt with a blue hippo tang and a yellow tang. I’m in love with this hobby!!

I had to laugh when you went out for a 75G and came home with a 120G. Welcome to the addiction. Your tank looks exceptional for being 3 months young.

I saw your thread about pale blue tang in qt for 28 day’s. When I first started in reefing, 48 years ago, the ich cyst cycle was considered 14 days, then 28 days. Is it now 72 days?

What length of time is your qt protocol? Did all fish in tank have the same qt period?

The first four fish were in qt for one month and seemed healthy so I moved them. This is only the second group I have had in qt.

i see little point in continuing a quarantine that may well kill your fish. Instead, introduce the tangs to their new home and allow fish immune system to work Instead of harsh chemicals.

“So many different opinions can make this so hard for us newbies.”

Because there are many successful ways to maintain a marine ornamental aquarium, there are that many more opinions on every subject.

I suggest you mimic a certain theme or biotype in your tank that is compatiable. In looking at your tank pictures you are well on your way. John Tullock’s book the Natural Reef Aquarium illustrates this very well. My favorite quote from his book, “Less technology/More Biology”.

I like being a minimalist in maintaining tanks. For me, I love lagoon biotheme.
