First time fragging lps.

So my candy cane had seen better days. It hasn’t been extending because of some algae and it had a really wide growth pattern. I lost seven heads because of the algae growth so I decided to frag it down and clean it up. I got 9 viable heads off it and they all seem to be ok. I’m not sure if I made them too short or not but there was no tissue in the bottoms of the new frags. I also found some weird seed looking things inside the skeleton. Super easy to squish and full of water. Anyone know what those are? Anyway, here’s a picture of the new frags and some of the algae. Let me know how I did please.

IF you have excellent water quality they'll quickly recover and start multiplying........if water quality is questionable.....they likely will continue to decline but none the less you did a good job cleaning them up and fragging them.

Thank you. They are starting to open back up. One of the frags still has algae on it and it’s growing back. They all do look happier tho.

what kind of algae eaters do you have in your tank? clean up crew? snails? tangs?

Not a whole lot. No tangs or anything and very minimal snails. We are planning to get a bigger crew as we upgraded tanks from a 90 to 125.

lowering water nutrients, both by limiting input and increasing outtake in the meantime as well as adjusting your lighting schedule down and/or changing to a more blue spectrum with less white/red will help with algae growth.
