Hello! This will be my first time fragging a coral. I have here a toadstool
KIMG0014.jpg

The small one to the the right will be the one I am cutting off to move.
I have been looking at videos on youtube but not really getting an answer to my question, which I will be asking in just a second.

I know to remove it with a smooth cut from a scissor and I have super glue to attach it to my next rock. My question is, can I put the new rock right into the tank or do I put the rock in another container for the night while the super glue hardens?

YOu will have difficulty getting the super glue to adhere to the leather's skin as it will slime it off. you may need to just rubber band it to a piece of rubble.

that said, with all my frags, I just put them back in the DT. the glue will harden in there pretty quickly. I use just the cheap superglue GEL from the dollar store. works like a charm.

When I do soft frags, I try to get some PVC or a small bowl..fill it with rocks/rubble in a very low flow area..they will attach to rock rubble, and from there you can superglue it where you want.

Also GEL is the important key word in all of that lol

Look for cyanoacrylate as an active ingredient. Use liquid superglue when you should have used gel..you're gonna have a bad time..

The frag split into two from the rubberband so I glued em to some rubble and reset them.

Yea, noticed that. If you get the rubberband to tight they will split themselves out. Not easy to do. Get Super Glue Gel to use on Softies.

IME the toadstools can detach from the glue before they have a chance to grow onto the rock. When I fragged mine, I think something like 3 out of 10 detached. One way around this is to put a toothpick through the frag, then use the rubberband to attach the toothpick to the rubble. This way it won't split. I have never done this myself, but my LFS does it with great success.

I gather up some small pistachio sized rubble, and place in my low flow corner than set the frags on top. In a day or two when they attach to a piece of rubble I use dollar store gel type super glue to attach the rubble where I want the frag. When I was worried about losing a piece I would use bridal veil to make sure it didn't float away.
