And just Incase anyone wants to be smart, yes I know a rounded container works better....but this fit the spot much better.

Oh well, now to see how long the rodi takes to fill it!!! Waiting, waiting....

Have ordered a custom overflow from Reef Creator and can’t wait to see it.

Thanks Jomama. I am not sure about that patience thing. More like trying (emphasis here) TRYING to budget my way into this.....so far....failing that aspect.

But am having fun.
Rare I buy new, all tanks I've bought are used. No leaks, thank God. I got use 2 tanks like yours and one 30 gallon. I like them.
Especially for drilling. Gotta have patience in this hobby. We're like farms on land. We plant, then it's out of our hands at one point. Wait,wait,wait,etc...

Alright so I didn’t think about the return line needing to come through the overflow (duh!!).

So why not break out the hole saw?
IMG_1417.JPG

Hole is slightly oversized. Did I mention I am totally winging this?!? Hope that doesn’t come back to bite me. At least I kept the cut out. I can glue it to the inside to make a block of sorts.

Now time to glue it in place. Trying some GE silicone for plastics. Saw a pretty good video on it and seemed to work.

BUT not having an open top makes this really difficult. Outside edges done. Will do the inside as well.

Today’s update is brought to us by the letters C. R. A. and P.

Overflow is put in place and looks like a pretty good seal inside and out.

So in order to test it I needed to get the rest of my plumbing. A trip to ACE and we are good to go. Then I decided to take the time to move the pump chamber baffle in my sump to make access to the pump easier.

A little razor knife and here we go. Then CRAP showed up. Yea I got the baffle out, but...in pieces. Three to be exact.

I don’t have any glass laying around so here is my idea. Gorilla glue the pieces together then some temporary scotch tape to keep pressure on the glue until it cures. After cure place a bead of silicone over the cracks for a final “seal”. It doesn’t have to be 100% just enough to hold a little static pressure....right?

So should I chance it or just find some new glass???

I would do new glass. Simply because that won't hold long. It might send tiny shards of glass into pumps and such.

Everything is looking good!

Thanks Dantimdad. I will probably do that. This isn’t the finest build but this part would definitely look like crap. Surely I can find a scrap piece of glass somewhere. Neighbor’s window perhaps. [emoji57]

I can at least use this as a template to cut the new piece.

Seriously!

I haven’t even got this tank wet yet and stuff keeps breaking. Baffle in sumo yesterday.

Today - Came home to find my redneck RODI water container sprung a leak.

At least it wasn’t a total failure just a small steady leak. Bright side is garage floor is not really clean!

Looks like a Brute will be my next purchase along with some glass for a baffle!

I just want to look at fishes....sigh.

Ok. Replaced baffle with new sheet AND decided to drill a second drain line for emergency.

I had an extra 3/4” bulkhead so why not use it. It won’t be the same as my 1” main drain, but better than nothing and not wasting any pieces!!

And there you have it. Emergency drain. I almost got the bulkheads to close but they fit nice and easy in this configuration.

The annoying part is I have Lowe’s, Menards, Home Depot and ACE stores here in town. BUT I have had to visit each just to get the plumbing I need. Only one has this part, the other that.....really sucks.

But then again it wouldn’t be a DIY project without all the trips to the store. I mean really, who plans this stuff out in advance?? [emoji57]
