Welcome!

I believe your fathers friend had a pistol shrimp and goby pair! That’s the only species of fish I know that will have a symbiotic relationship with pistol shrimp, but maybe someone will chime in and tell me I’m wrong 😂

Anyways, you can’t really go wrong with either of those systems. More your preference on size/style/price. Depending on what you want to grow coral wise (if any) a better light like an ai prime or something similar would be a really good option for those.

Good luck on your journey! Create a build thread when you finally get it so we can all follow along 🤘🏼
Awesome so I'd really like to house them! Do they sell them as a pair or separate? Would I need more than one set, or they okay with just each other and a clean up crew?

Welcome!

I’ve heard the Hello Reef system is fantastic for new hobbyists, as the video system basically walks you through.
Yeah I was going through some of the video's kinda checking things out, I gotta say they really do hold your hand and walk you through everything.
Which isn't bad especially for an over thinker like myself.

Welcome, glad you are here! I’ve had a Biocube 32 g set up for over 4 years, problem free. I read good things about the other two tanks you mentioned.
Ohh idk they had a 32g the one I found was 14 or 16 🤔 it was around there. Now I wanna look for the bigger one for sure!!

Welcome to Reef2Reef!

The community will be able to help you with pretty much all your questions, but you will probably have to ask them in different threads so they don't get drowned in welcome messages.

As reef tanks can be quite expensive, I advice you to skip the divorce and instead take your husband on the journey into a new hobby with you 😁

Depending on what they have at your LFS, you can get them separate and hope they bond eventually (better odds in a smaller tank) or find a pair that’s already formed a bond for sale.

I like Dr reefs quarantined fish but there’s so many options and a good LFS that knows what they’re doing and cares about their fish would probably be a good place to start as well. I’d aim to only keep one pair as the pistol shrimp can re arrange your sandbed 😂 don’t need two of those bulldozers
