Hi everyone,

I have a problem with my pintail wrasse hidding a lot because my mccosker's flasher wrasse is chasing him and keeping him a corner. Basically the mccosker's flasher wrasse want him out of sight. I purchased the pintail and flame wrasses 3 weeks ago. I used acclimation boxes for two days and I see no aggression then I released them. The flame is okay with the other fishes since day one. I know pintail is a bit shy but he get scare very easily. He’s still very active when feeding but does not like to hang out with other fishes. Is there anyway I can help? Tried mirror and feeding more, but does not helps.

So this has been ongoing for 2 weeks?is it a casual charge or does the mccoskers chas non stop till he hides. what's tank size? If pintail is still able to swim in the open in a small area of the tank and gets to feed and there's no torn fins.... I say this might still work with time.

The tank is 4 feet long and has 75 gallon of dt. It’s like chase until it hide but pintail tail just too scare of the fishes beside the flame and clown. He’s still able swim in the back of the aquarium. Just the Mccosker won’t let him or he does not have the courage to swim in the front open area.

Unfortunately you are probably going to have to pick between one and the other. That is really interesting that the McCosker's is the aggressor. Usually they are the ones being bullied.

I had a P. flavianalis that bullied a couple of small fairy wrasses before. I bet some time in "jail" (I would suggest 4-6 weeks) will help tremendously. If not you'll have to pick between the two.

C. isoscoles sure does seem to be a very shy species.

Currently flasher is in the accumulation box. Should I move him into a qt tank or in the box is fine.

If you are going to keep him in time out for a few weeks another tank is the way to go. If just a few days, the acclimation box is ok. If you have another tank, that would be your best chance of success IMO.

Wow a Flasher Wrasse that bullied a Blue Tang? That is one mean little fish. Just goes to show that although there are norms for given fish, all of them are unique individuals.

My Mckorsker is pretty aggressive. Seems to mostly target other red fish. Spreads his fins wide open and goes around them like the horse riders in lord of the rings. He tends to leave non-red fish alone, even when eating. I am not sure what to tell you, I do not expect mine to change. My plan is to get a flame angel in there and give him someone his own size to pick on. For what it is worth I hope the penalty box works. I will be interested to hear how it turns out.

It.might just be setting up the hirearchy straight and a greasing will decrease or it might go the other way and ull have to pick on of the two to keep. A 2-3 weeks timeout should help.

Trap the moskers and place it in acclimation box or similar for about 4 weeks to allow new wrasse to establish a territory, feeding, etc. Below is a simple homemade trap

Thanks guys! I have trapped the yellow tang, Mccosker flasher, yellow Coris wrasses. Put them into a separate tank. Nows, the pintail is with a flame and two clowns for three days already. He’s still not swimming in the open area. Lol

If he was hiding from aggression it will take more than a day. I have had fish in QT take two weeks to not run from me when I have food. I do not think there is much else you can do so cross your fingers.

Just an update. I put the flasher into a qt for a week then put him in the accumulation box for another week. It seem pretty clam even when the pintail is around. So I decide to release him today. However, he goes crazy to the pintail right after I realeased him. At least the pintail is brave enough, and he will come out for food no matter what. I’m getting a labouti and rhomboids this weekend. Let’s see if they will change anything.
