I have noticed my fish, and even my seahorses, sometimes get in front of the wavemakers and surf the current across the tank, I see them sometimes swim in front of the wavemakers, so I believe they have fun in the flow.

Flow is also important to push water into the filtration system, it keeps detritus from falling to the surface and building up, which causes algae's and bad bacteria. Its about algae prevention IMO
