Ended up with some kind of bristle tooth and a yellow tank and a ton of corals today. He’s going freshwater and gave me everything.

so I didn't even pay attention and have the water level at 6" in the skimmer section. The last skimmer that was fine but for BM skimmers, it needs to be 9" DOH!

So, I am printing a joiner that I designed to add 3" of acrylic to the baffle. I will cut the baffle on the laser. Should do the trick. Will have to add about 5 gallons of saltwater to the sump when I get it all put together.

I gotta tell ya, having the tools I have really makes life a lot easier sometimes. Plus it shouldn't look too cobbled together when it's done.

The really cool part is, I can always cut a new piece of acrylic to raise or lower the water level if I change skimmers.

waiting on a float valve so I can setup the water change container. Using a food safe rubbermaid 20 gallon brute. Should be enough for a little over 10% a week. I have a 33 gallon as well but it's a bit tall for where I want to put it.

I will just have to make sure I stay on schedule with the water changes. The plan is to, eventually, switch to 2 gallons a day with an AWC setup then 15-20 a week. I hate that you have to buy a full blown controller system to setup a reliable AWC system.

I tried it with a four head doser a couple years ago and it lasted about 6 weeks and the heads started failing and then it wouldn't calibrate no matter what I did.

So I found out you can do and AWC setup with just versa dosing pumps and the app.

Ordered two from an LFS since I have a bunch of store credit.

Will report back when they arrive.

Tank maintenance day.

The skimmer was nasty! Had to print a foot for it because it wasn't sitting level and I can't find them to buy. :)

I put a power head in the sump to keep stuff from settling out. I have to be more diligent about changing filter floss. I will go every other day instead of every 3 or 4 now.

Still have to stir the sand bed, blast the rock and clean all four sides of the glass inside and 3 outside then wipe down the plumbing and outside of the sump.

I need to come up with a way to calm down salt spray in the drain section of the sump.

I am setting up the water change can since the float valve finally came in. I am just going with the 20 gallon for now.

After the reef, I have to change filter pads on the 12 footer and trim the plants. No need to clean the inside glass. 2.5 years and haven't had to clean the glass. looks like a glass of vodka! If only reefs were that easy to maintain.

Can you not extend the drain pipes?

Sounds like you’re going AWC. How much daily have you calculated?

They are below water level. The spray isn't super bad but I would like it to be near zero.

I am going to change 2 gallons a day. Total system volume is right at 160.

Yes, I know, but someday maybe someone who cares will read this. Doubtful, but still...

My LFS is being flaky about the verse pumps so I ordered GHL 2.2 max.

Supposed to be better anyway and more quiet.

No, just tired of dinking around with junk. About the only stuff I DIY now are sumps, canopies and stands.
