For those of you that have done fish-less cycling how many of you do it in a Brute (or other) storage container and how many of you do it in your display tank (maybe 1/2 full)?

I ask because I really want to get the rock work perfect in my display tank (75 gallons). I want to look at it for a while, play around, get it glued and all of that when dry because wet has always been more difficult for me.

The cycling process is more for the rocks to build a beneficial bacteria population so you really have to be patient. You’d have to get the rockwork perfect and then start the cycle in your display. You can use bacteria in a bottle products to expedite the cycle but patience is the key for a long term healthy tank.

Lay a towel in your table and fold it to your tank dimensions and play with the rocks on there. You could spend all year messing with them and will still second guess yourself once they're wet. I wouldn't start trying to cycle without the rocks. They will change your readings most likely

I don't think I was clear on my question.

For people that have done fish less cycling, with rock of course, have you done it in your display tank with success? Or is it not recommended.
