Hi all,

Thinking about getting into the hobby, but obviously want to start small, maybe 40 gallon. I'm wondering what saltwater fish do good with low numbers.....maybe 1 tang and 2-3 clownfish? I think I'll want to add coral too....how do tangs and clownfish do with coral?

Thanks!

Welcome to the hobby. I would avoid a tang in a 40 gallon due to swimming room requirements. 2 clowns could work as long as they are a pair. They both do good with corals generally.

When you start really getting into the hobby I recommend the following:

1. Go slow*****
2. Research fish species
3. Resist putting corals in until tank has thoroughly been established (It is a horrible feeling when you see a coral wither away, and trying to figure out the source of the problem)
4. Test regularly to keep a pulse on what is going on in the tank (I test weekly, but new tanks may need more frequent testing until established and stable)
5. Research some more on the forum, there is a ton of experience on here and helpful members.
6. Take your time and **go slow** (Resist the urge to rush)

I am sure others will chime in with some good advice. Be safe and take care ;)
