Fish w/purple spot mantis

What fish can be kept with a purple spot mantis?

Would the preferred fish need to stay up in the water column? Or would a red rooster waspfish, jawfish, yellow spotted scorpionfish, blennies or gobys work?

I keep a red rooster wasp fish myself and honestly it would be a very bad idea to keep it with a mantis shrimp they're slow moving and and would very likely venture into the mantis shrimps burrow and get killed, if you have a separate tank for a wasp fish they are great and personable little cuties but unfornutely not compatible with mantis shrimp

as far as blennies and gobies it would really be the same reasons of the mantis shrimp killing them, I also have yellow headed Jawfish and it would be pretty much the same risk as even though they burrow and will retreat to it they wont outrun a mantis shrimp

pretty much everyfish is some degree of a risk when It comes to mantis shrimp but your best bet would be something like a striped damselfish or a domino damsel

That’s what I was thinking. But figured I’d ask.

I do have another tank that has a blue spotted jawfish and a goldface Toby puffer. I really like the red rooster waspfish. But was concerned the puffer might get too curious.

I don’t really know much about puffer behavior but I don’t really see it picking on the waspfish as they don’t really make provocative movements towards other fish that would cause an attack, but from my personal experience with red rooster waspfish they are definitely adorable and full of personality, mine has gone as far as begging for food when it’s hungry lol

How big is your goldface toby? They are one of the smaller toby species, I think maxes at 2 inches. The waspfish hides a lot so shouldnt be an issue

They have been on my wish list for a while. They are so cute. I would love a pair. But from my understanding it can be a little difficult differentiating male from female. That even if two are huddled together at a LFS doesn’t necessarily mean it’s a male and female.

See how the female’s spines are duller whereas my male’s are pointier and the front is taller

In your experience are males more shy? My male was so shy it was hard to feed him, he would never take to prepared foods and eventually died whereas my female is a pig and way more out-going. I like the colors on your guy

That’s interesting mine is always out and I actually had to feed him less at one point because he was getting too fat
