I finally went ahead and ordered what will (probably) be my last tank upgrade.

I’ve been keeping reef tanks in some form since I was in middle school in the early 2000s. I’ve had to move a lot between college, med school, residency and finally getting what’s a pretty good and likely permanent gig. I’ve had a 75g for the past 5ish years. Initially it was an Aqueon but last year during a move it cracked and I had to same day but and set up my current reefer 350.

This last move was into what we expect to be our forever home. We’ve got a home office that has room for the next tank: a 310g 8 foot glass cages build. Just finished this ordering it this week. Joe was awesome to work with and I’m super excited for what’s to come. I decided to go with a taller rather than wider tank, as I really want more active swim space, and tall tanks have just always impressed me. So I went 96x24x31.

It’ll be a few month until it arrives, and for now I’m working on a stocking list and reenforcing the office floor.

I’ve never had anything above 75g so this’ll finally be a chance to try all the dream fish I’ve wanted since I was a kid. Definitely Achilles tang, powder blue tang, and regal angel are on the list. Otherwise, a mostly softy mixed reef with a few sps.

There won’t be any huge updates until the tank arrives, but super excited to get things started!

Congrats on the new tank. I had to make a similar size choice earlier this year when I replaced a 72x24x24" 180g that my tangs were outgrowing. After having a 29" tall tank before I did not want tall again. Like you I love the look but cleaning it was a hassle. I wanted an 8ft but just didn't have the room. I ended up going with a 84x30x25" The difference Between 30" front to back depth vs 24" is HUGE. Scaping it was so much easier. I was able to place the rock in the center so the fish can swim around the rocks instead of back and forth in front of them. I always struggled with 24" and the rock ended up against the back wall. Just rambling, not trying to change your mind ;) I'm sure it will be a great tank. I almost went with Joe but after thinking it over I decided I just didn't want to do the DIY plumbing and such so I went with a WB 330.7

I also ordered from glass cages. My tank should come 12/24. I want 7 to 8 feet but not enough room so I went with 72x30x25. I agree Joe, Silus, David were great to work with. I also love the 30 inch depth. I feel it makes rock scape so much easier. I'm sure Joe would adjust your build, it's only a little more money! I can't wait to start the new build thread. My blue tang and orange shoulder tang are getting huge and not happy in the 40 gallon tank in the garage.

I definitely thought about going for more front to back depth, but have never really liked that look as much as going taller. I’ve always gone heavier on the live rock and like the idea of a taller aqua scape rather than deeper.

Sounds like that’ll be an awesome tank!

Can't wait to see the new tank!

Congrats! I got a 120 from GC that I setup in my office a little over a year ago. It is a nicely made tank and stand. We are building a new facility and I'll have to move to a new office in a couple of years. I keep eying the architects plans thinking how much easier it would be if I just bought a longer for the new office and just moved everything over :) I'll be following along to see how your eight-footer turns out.

My current peninsula is a glass cages and it’s 72x36x24 tall! I love the 3ft depth but this tank is a peninsula so I can work around the sides and it makes it easy! Against a wall a 36” deep tank would be a challenge as I have a hard time reaching past the center if something falls in the sand I normally gotta use tongs.

I have to do that with my 30" tank as well lol. I do love the 30" vs 24" for scaping purposes though.

Those are the dimensions of my Oceanic, 96 x 24 x 31. You will love everything about that tall tank except having to reach inside to get anything from the back, I suggest you get some extra large stainless forceps, I have a pair of Super Tweezers about 18 inches long that is the most useful thing I have for my tank. And I'm 6'3. Also a step stool really helps :)

Following. Looking forward to seeing your tank come alive.

I am considering having glass cages build an 8 footer for our new house as well, and I would love to hear about your experience working with them if you're willing to share!

Hopefully getting the tank soon! @Joe Glass Cages let me know they are backed up due to demand, so my completion date changed to 4/4. I’ll be calling Monday to check in. Very excited to get it set up!
Hi @DylanE

I like the way Silas put it..... "Unprecedented Interest in our Furniture"

really has been unbelievable. We just installed a second paint booth. Hired 2 additional professionals. acquired new 133" x 80" CNC. 5,000 soft expansion. Turn around times are starting to improve and more innovations coming.

Thanks to everyone for your support. All of this is so humbling. thank you.

Awesome, glad to hear it, Joe! I appreciate you guys continuing to do it right rather than cranking them out. Looking forward to it!

Thanks so much Dan. The team is amazing. they get all the credit.

your tank is really coming together.

The tank has shipped! Should arrive the 17th. Also just received my new centerpiece: a 11 inch dragon eel. I’ll be basing the rest of my livestock off of things that will do best with him as he grows out. He was acclimated yesterday and already ate today, which is super exciting.
