Has anybody kept one successfully? I have read that they are filter feeders and very difficult to keep alive.

I have recieved one as a "freebie" in a live rock order. I am just wondering if I should take it out of the tank :( or give it a go? I don't want it to perish and wipe everything out with an amonia spike.

Yeah most i know is that they - Need a shaded area with high/med flow with some planktonic foods. 3-5months is the usual for them to stay alive but can go a year or more...knew someone that had his for a 1.5 yrs. They are tough to keep but are really nice looking. not sure about the ammonia spike when they did but if you have a CUC they probably would take care of it for ya.

Well that is encouraging. I will try to give it a go then. He seems pretty spunky right now. Does not like me to touch him or get close to him. Though the jet propulsion is pretty cool. Guess i will be purchasing some planktonic food.
