Fleece roller compatibility

I’m so sick of changing filter socks. I’m wondering about comparability with fleece rollers. My water box currently takes 2, 4in filter socks. I was curious what fleece rollers would be comparable with my system?

I assume you want a roller that would fit where the socks are now located. You need to measure the dimensions of that part of the sump and the space above the sump to determine if a compatible product is available or possibly a 3D printed one.

The Klir-4 might be an option for you. It’s a drop-in for a 4 inch filter sock location. I was going to go that route but decided on a Reefmat-1200 instead where I will be doing some significant modifications to my sump to make it work.

A Klir if you want to keep your filter sock holes, since they are designed to fit into them.

I’d recommend taking an exact knife and remove the silicone of your filter sock are and remove it so you have an opening that you can fit a larger fleece roller into. But before you did that, how big is that area if you were to remove it? You need to make sure of your options before you did something that can’t be easily reversed.

The Klir approach would be the simplest to implement. However, the Klir uses a fairly narrow roll of fleece. I had one that worked OK but was not as effective as I wanted.

Since then, I have 3D printed a much larger Fleece roller, almost 3 times the width of the KLIR I had. I was able to do this because my sump is a DIY that gave me flexibility to accommodate my design.

The fleece roller systems on the market are relatively expensive. Do your homework to be sure the one you want can be adapted to your sump.

I agree they can be expensive. The last time i bought any i used BRS. My roll are around 10 inches wide. I had used a different vendor earlier, but i could not find him recently. Do a google search in addition to an R2R search and you may find other choices.

I recommend modifying your sump to fit a normal filter roller, smarter reef, reefmat, Clarisea, etc.

I had a Klir and it just burned through expensive filter paper. The larger filters can use aftermarket filter paper, whereas the Klir uses a reallly small roll that the aftermarket supplier can’t cut to.
