I have a large flipper and a small. Got the small because the large one was so strong even in my 235 g reef. Today decided to use the best of both. By using the smaller dry side on the larger wet side this allowed me to get more surface area plus some hard to reach corners with ease. Yup a bit more expensive having both but made quick work of my glass cleaning.

I’ve done similar, ran an older magnet external with my tunze internal, or flipper internal.

Often the issue is the dry side pad needs cleaning. If you are planning to clean the outside of the tank just get the dry side wet and go to town, slides with ease.
