It has been a few years since I bought flourscent lights.
Is it true they are now banned or out of production for LED lights?

No.. they still sell t5 lighting for our tanks.. some are banned in some countries but specialty bulbs were never effected..

Fluorescents are still generally considered efficient, so they're around. Same with halides. If there are regulations, its around mercury content, which isn't too much of a factor as most bulbs would be replaced well before mercury loss would limit their life.
