Hey all need some advice. I’ve got a 5’ custom AIO peninsula tank that’s primarily fish only and anemones right now. Eventually it’ll become SPS dominant over time. My main goal was nothing obstructing the three viewing panes. This tank sits in my living room, and general room aesthetics are very important to me.

I tried going with a single AI Orbit 2 on the filtration wall, and I’m finding that it’s just not enough. The far side of the tank is very mellow even at higher settings.

I had a slew of MP10’s (always loved Vortech in previous sps tanks), but ended up selling all but 2 because I didn’t like having pumps on viewing panels.

So help me out on upgrading the AI Orbit:

1) replace the Orbit 2 with and Orbit 4

2) replace the Orbit 2 with 2 x Nero 5’s

3) replace the Orbit 2 with 2 x other puck style power head

4) keep the Orbit 2 and add a second Orbit 2 on the opposite side (not ideal but livable).

5) Other

5) other.

I would keep the Orbit 2 and add 2xNero 5's. Orbit up top for that line flow at the surface and Nero's to the sides of it towards the middle-bottom.

Gyres in my experience lose so much flow as they get dirty compared to say vortechs/neros and I am too lazy to clean them. But paired with nero's will get the flow all the way.

And this is coming from a 4ft SPS dominated peninsula with 5 MP40's and 1 WAV.

No way to reliably do it unless you go big on the overflow end. MP60s, Tunze 6255, etc.

I have a 5 foot peninsula with 4x MP40 and I’m happy with the flow (but not the incessant Dryside noise issues), and my 2 on the viewing end are pretty unobtrusive.

Do you plan on having substrate? I've been contemplating putting multiple vortech pumps on the bottom pane of the aquarium. This would only work if you're going bare bottom though.

The dry side would sit under the tank...secured with straps or something along those lines. The wet side would sit nicely inside the tank on the bottom pane. Just need to hide the wet sides with decor. This should also eliminate the possibility of wet sides decoupling and falling off on startup.

Ya no deal on bare bottom. My original thought was to do MP10’s on the back panel but hidden below the rock work, but didn’t work out to well in application.

Hmm not a bad thought there!

I do have 2 x MP10s maybe I just try them on the opposite long end and see if I can live with it.
