Flow problems

I have a small 20 gallon innovative marine peninsula. I have the return pump on full blast and a jabeo 15 I believe (whatever it is it has plenty of power) I also have just a normal power head going too. My problem is I feel like I am not getting enough current through the tank because every rock in the tank collects small particulates of sand or detritus or whatever maybe settling. My questions are 1 where should I place the power heads so I dont get dead spots and 2 how much is too much flow/current?

my wave maker is on The back glass in front of the toadstool facing away from the toadstool. The overflow for the filter section is right back there behind the toadstool. The return pump is On the front glass. And my little power head is on the back glass but it’s facing to the front glass going right through a little cave/tunnel in my rockscape.

I have mostly zoas and palys that seem to be pretty good right now. I also have a few lps. And a toadstool. All seem to be doing pretty good.

Perhaps try positioning the powerhead differently.

+1 for repositioning the powerheads. Also, you could try out a random flow generator nozzle for the return.

Welcome to R2R! It can be tough to get your flow dialed in. You’ll know it’s too much if your corals retract.

Welcome to R2R! Aside from looking for piled up detritus, I found it helpful to feed frozen food with the pumps still on, see where it does and does not flow, and adjust from there.

Just move the power heads around until you find the best position as it all depends on your aquascape design
