Fluval 13.5 Advice

Hello everyone! I have finally set up my Fluval nano tank and have started the cycling process!

If anyone has any tips on where to put my powerhead (right now it is opposite of the return pump flowing through the channel created by my scape)

Also I will update this thread as the tank progresses, thank you for all the help so far

I’ve been playing with my flow a lot over the last few months. I think where you have it is good but I would point it up diagonally so it creates surface ripples and pushes water towards your overflow.

This will help eliminate deadspots and add oxygen to the tank. Plus having it point up slows the direct current impact on corals. The key is indirect flow so bounce it off the surface or walls.

I use two of the Hygger Mini wavemakers mounted on opposite sides and opposite ends of the tank but facing each other. it gives my flow a bit of a circular direction with the return nozzles and overflow adding to that. I keep them on medium power to avoid sandstorms. Great little pumps.

Grab this kit, it'll make waves on the surface like nobody's business. Buy the upgrade kit as the stock fluval loc-line is slightly smaller and the nozzles won't stay on properly.

I actually have those nozzles, however you’re right they don’t quite fit right, I don’t want to spend more than I have to do you have a recommendation on how to fix that?

Buy original loc-line and get rid of that knock off line. I know money money right, but give @Vivid Creative Aquatics a call or email and I'm sure he'll hook you up. Antonio is easy to work with and I'm sure he'll be able to give you the advice you need.

I have no idea I bought the tank off marketplace and they just came with it lol

Yep - NOT the Random Flow Generator... and to make mattes worse, that design simply does not do, what a Random Flow Generator does. :-(

This is an issue we run into all the time, and its frustrating. Not only because you got something that does not deliver on the promise, but also because, unless you use an actual Random Flow Generator, you may never know what it's actually capable of, and you may never choose to try it again.

EDIT - Always look for the "VCA". it's a sure fire way to make sure you are getting the real deal. Even our 1/4in RFGs have it. It's small, but its there.

I do this exact same. When researching this was the diagram I found explaining the logic on why it works.
