Fluval Spec V Upgrade

Hi all! I have a fluval spec v I have that’s been running for about 4 months now. I’m wanting to upgrade the return pump and heater but not sure what would fit in the space in the chambers. Do any of you guys run upgraded equipment on that specific setup? Also wanting to possibly add a surface skimmer.
