For sure reef safe crabs

Haven’t had crabs for several years now and after Iv’ve seen Blue Planet 2 I’m thinking of getting some again. Are there any types of crabs that are for sure reef safe. I have coral and I don’t want crabs to hurt my urchin and snails either.

Safest bet is porcelain crabs. Most others can and sometimes will pick at corals.

I've never seen a pitho crab mess with corals, except occasionally knocking sand bed corals over when they burrow.

porcelain and anemones are probably your best bet. Emeralds are great, but still very opportunistic and wouldn't turn down an easy meal.

I have blue and red legged hermits,pithos,red mithrax,and emeralds in my tank. So far i haven't seen any of them bother my corals. But i feed heavy so they may have enough food throughout the day.

I don't have any experience with pithos. Moat reef safe crab are any porcelain crabs and pom pom crabs.

Absolutely. Not reef safe.

Same with me. I’ve watched my emerald clean hair algae meticulously out of zoas and never bother polyps. I have one emerald that likes to hide in both my birds nests but I’ve watched him and nothing has ever happened, if it did I wouldn’t care it’s a birds nest I feed a few crustacean pellets here and there for the 10 or so blue legs but they scavenge rock algae and fish food first
