Found this gorgeous coral......

...at my LFS. The guy who worked there had no clue of what it was. Do you guys have any idea what type of coral it is? It kindof looked like a softie to me, but i’m up for any suggestions.

if it is a soft coral (or easy lps) i will buy it for sure. Its the tube like coral in the middle of the picture.

Looks like a purple stylophora. An SPS coral but pretty hardy coral. However that tank is riddled with Aiptasia so I would not buy from them

+1 Stylos are less finicky than Acros and Montis but they do like heavy flow and higher lighting.

When you see a tank with that many aptasia visible you might want to reconsider purchasing anything from them.

No offense but take EVERYTHING that LFS tells you with a grain of salt!! Literally. There lack of knowledge of that coral plus the insane amounts of aptasia is a huge red flag.

Yes, aiptasia is a huge red flag. Very high chance of it spreading into your tank. But personally I would have still bought it since this exactly what I do with this lfs which i frequent. They have ALOT of aiptasia. You just have to take extra precaution

1. QT (Quarantine Tank) which normally aiptasia or not, is a good practice to have one.
2. Always snap of the old frag plug/base and glue the coral onto a new one.

3. Leave the coral in quarantine till your are absolute sure it is pest free.

I would still advice against buying it since it seems you weren’t expecting sps which I take that your tank isn’t set up for sps. Despite stylos or corals in the pocilloporidae family (pocillopora, stylophora, birds nest) being generally easy to keep sps, they are still abit more demanding than softies and some lps.
