Textured the glue has a better bite on it. IMO

^ +1 and it is also easier to mount to the rock for grow out too

which one do you prefer, smooth surface or textured surface disk

i like the textured myself. i dont use them often but when i do i find the glue or epoxy hold better to it

I like the smooth surface discs. I make them myself out of clay. I find them easier to clean then a textured surface and I don't seem to have any particular difficulty getting them to adhere to the rock in my tank.
