Fragging my BTA

Sooo, I have a rainbow BTA that was getting a bit big for it's britches and refused to split, so I thought I would take matters into my own hands. This is how it looked

Nice. I think somebody else posted a pic of splitting one with a knife. I've heard of people fragging them before, but I never knew it was as "easy" as slicing them down the middle.

Wow. Never seen that done before. How long does it take before it heals?

Your basically just forcing a split. Heal time will vary depending on how healthy your bta is and how stable ur tank is. During a natural split the heal time for my rbta is about 3 days. Then I usually wait a week or two before I start feeding again

Yeah, especially when the rock they attached to is at the very bottom of the rock pile. I'd love to pull one of mine out, but he isn't moving, I'm afraid to make him do so, and he's at the very bottom of the rock pile, so removing the rock is an all day project.

Thanks for the compliments guys. Getting it off the rock was the trickiest. I think that the foot has two sides with a seam running down the middle. I used a stylus with a rubber tip that went to an old blackberry and found a spot I could wiggle under it. Took about 15-20 minutes of massaging back and forth with the stylus and it came loose.
When I left for work, all 4 pieces had attached themselves to the acrylic and were wandering around the box like crazy. I'll try to post pics in a bit.

That was easy man. You know the rainbow you and I got from Jon. It took about 30 mins to get it off the rock. Plus we had to pull half the rocks out. Jon held the rock and I used a screw driver and broke the rock piece by piece. Can't wait to see how the babies come out. Might have to get one so I have two rainbows with different color combos.

A trick I use to get bta's off of rocks is just get a high flow powerhead and just blast it with flow. Hold the powerhead right next to the bta, they usually let go within 10 minutes
