I was out buying more live rock for my tank during the cycle, been cycling for about a week now. And my LFS gave me a Duncan for free and said it would be fine even with my ammonia at .5 and nitrite at 4. What should I do? Put it in and opened up immediately, said it is hardy enough to withstand it?

Duncans can be very hardy coral and grow faster than you’d expect, if your worried about it you can take measures to try and speed up the cycling process like adding rock from an established tank if your lfs will sell you some

Yes NYAquatics gave me live cured Indonesian rock out of their sumps, about 10lbs in a 25 gal. Ammonia has went from 2 to .5 in 6 days and nitrite has spiked but yet to come down.
What are the main things I need to look at for coral health? How can I tell it is doing good? Bought some reef roids to feed

When happy duncans will be fully open
I would watch out for big swings, they can withstand smaller swings pretty well

Coral actually prefer ammonia as energy. Here is an article from @Randy Holmes-Farley : https://www.reef2reef.com/ams/ammonia-is-our-friend.1062/

The nitrite will come down quickly too with live rock.

Great thank you! Do you think this is too much current just from my return nozzles?

yes that looks to be too much, it should be low flow, so that they're tentacles gently flow, mine are closed due to the light being off but i can video mine as a example

They are hardy as **** – and you can take that to the bank.

I had a heat wave without AC during 100ºF+ weather and duncans were my ONLY survivor.....tank temps were approaching 90ºF.]

Edit: Worth pointing out that ammonia's "danger" is quite overstated in the first place....and those exaggerations only refer to fish. To a coral ammonia is a primary nutrient. As long as phosphate and other parameters are good and positive, it shouldn't be an issue.
