Frogspawn-octospawn keeps on shinking day by day

Hello all. I bouth this guy about a month ago and its been open and all perfect until this recent week it started shrinking day by day. All my other euphyllias are feeling great and the other corals to. My guess is that either the light is too much which is ecotech xr30 pro on aclimation set for top intensity to hit 45%, and the other guess is that its turning into 2 heads but they are still conjoined, but in a very small area. At this point I dont know because my other euphyllia are all open and looking healthy. Any help is apreciated

Well, firstly, your alkalinity is way low. You should be closer to around 12dKH. Try to move it around the tank, like under a hangover, or away from that hammer-it may be getting stung. Good luck!

Woah woah. Where did you get that info from??

7dkh is Natural seawater alkalinity so an Alk of 7.7 is completely fine and acceptable.

Keeping high dKH tanks is a fairly new thing and 12 dKH is on the upper spectrum of what’s acceptable.

Out of curiosity, do you mean dip it in freshwater or another type of chemical?

In my experience euphyllias tolerate freshwater dips very well. Very effective in getting rid of pests. Don't try it with other corals though.

I spot fed it polylab reefroids last week and dose amino acids everyday

I already glued it to the rock but I diped it before puting it in and cannot spot any pests on it

My LFS who has been in business for over 30 years. Mine runs about 13 which is fine, according to them. Also, many other reefers on here say that too.

In my experiance from 6.7-9.5 seems to be the perfect spot, havn't been in this hobby as long as you but have been around for 3-4 years and had 3 tanks 3rd being this nano 20 gallon, and would say that higher end alk 10-14 killed of some of my corals specially lps

You could be right by that. I'm still learning too! Been doing this for almost 20 years, myself, but learning every day.

I'm sorry, but you probably shouldn't be suggesting this, whether or not it came from a LFS you enjoy.. While you can run a tank with an elevated alkalinity, this is not the norm for most reefers. Moreover, tanks should only be run at elevated alkalinity if the aquarist understands the challenges of higher alkalinity such as alk burn on tips with ULNS or the increased abiotic preciptation. I would never suggest all reefers run at that level- it's much easier to suggest a level closer to NSW for your average hobbyist.

You've been doing this for 20 years, but you rely on what your LFS tells you? Sorry, but advice like yours on messageboards is prime example of how ppl can't rely on forums for their tanks.

Id also aim for 7-9dkh OP.

Alk 11.5. Would not recommend this alk level with a low nitrate like 2. Stability is key more so than a number. Have been slowly lowering alk to slow growth running out of room currently at 9.7

Actually high DKH tanks are old school . Back in the day 1990s we were being told as high as possible 11DKH min.
