Hey all,
I have a frogspawn that had been doing well for a few months. Over the last month, it began to extend less. I moved it to a shaded to see if it was getting too much light, as it was higher in the tank. It hasn't really recovered over the last month. Dipped it in Iodine two weeks ago. Still no improvement. Then, I noticed a strange growth at the base of the tissue. It looks like a small ball of tissue, hard to explain. Pictures aren't great because I can only see the area at night when the coral is sleeping for the night.

I attached three pictures. One when it was "happy." Two, when it was less extended in the shaded area. Three, the growth at the bottom of the tissue.

All other euphyllia in the tank appear to be doing well and or thriving. No major changes to the tank.

Any thoughts? thanks.

It might be sponge. Euphyllias are known for that because sponge grows under rocks and anything that's shaded. What I usually will do is take a tooth brush to the sponge and try to remove it or you can expose the sponge to air which helps also. Just take it out for a minute and put it back
In. Anyone else have any ideas?

Here is a better picture if anyone has any further ideas. Sponge is a possibility. It is like the "****e stuff" corals sometimes spew. It has tentacles if you look closely at the strings. I'm wondering if i should take it off with a blade or if it is just growth. Thank you.

That is very interesting!
It looks very similar to the innards of a euphyllia

Hope I'm not breaking any rules I found this on a different site!

But maybe it was close to another coral and that's the warfare from it. Definitely looks like what you see above!
I would scrub it off and then dip it again.

Keep the water clean and I think you'll be okay!

Exactly! thats the exact thing I see. Thanks for the reply Sometimes my Euphyllia spit that stuff out. Now it seems to be growing on the skeleton. Actually the coral is doing much better now. It's only next to another frogspawn frag in lower light, where I moved it to. I just don't know if i should slice that off with a razor blade or let it go since it seems healthy again.

Glad to hear it's better.
I mean if it's some form of warfare the stuff would eventually lose its punch .
Is the other frogspawn the same type.
Usually they are good together but that is interesting.
Also it's not normal for them to spit it out as that is their stomach.
Are your water levels okay?

It initially wasn't next to anything, but started looking bad, so I moved into into really low light and dipped a few times. When it started looking better I moved it next to the other frogspawn (not the same type, but I don't think it's the cause because it looks healthier now and the problem started before).

It's also strange that the "stomach tissue"-the white filaments) are coming from the base of the coral tissue.

Parameters have been pretty much constant throughout this. Trying to increase my alkalinity, but having problems what that. But, again, no problems I've noticed in the water since this started, which is at least a month.

Thanks for the thoughts.

Definitely weird!
Well hopefully someone else can chime in! I definitely agree it's strange to see it on the side of the coral unless it shrank threw up and got stuck on the side. Lol
