Fuge light growing algae in my skimmer

The baffle isn't going to help all that much. Your light is up higher than the water, and the light spread is what you are trying to prevent.

Is there a compelling reason to not use a black acrylic divider? A situation where it would actually be detrimental?

If not, even though it would not eliminate light hitting the skimmer it would have to reduce it.

Another creative light limiting solution is duct tape. If you can't duct it, ... Well. ;)

no but as mark said, the light is coming down from over the baffle and painting it black only covers light through the side.

While the body of the skimmer will get lit up, it's the upper section that gets the brunt of the light and what gets coralline growth. I've taken out my skimmer about twice a year and let it run in a vat of muriatic acid since 2005. Still have the same skimmer running, and it always looks like new again.

Hmmmm how about a nice black shirt on your skimmer then it wouldn't look homeless ahahahahah

complete with a neck tie,it would look more sophisticated as well LOL

how about adding a reflector to the light to shield the skimmer from the escaped light,it would also direct more light into the fuge ?
