I had one very similar about 8 mths ago. I was selling a washer and dryer. Got an email that was worded exactly like that. After going back and forth for a day he said "okay I put check in mail" next day a check for $3000 shows up???? I was only asking $300. He says $200 for you other for delivery company. Then I was getting harassing emails every ten minutes to ship item. Once I told him to wait a few days for processing the check was canceled.

Nigeria?? yea i'd be hesitant to stick that in the mail, especially when paypal hasn't cleared the payment. Though the last time i sold something on Ebay they pretty much asked the same thing, wanting me to send them the tracking number or they'd give me the money when i got positive feedback

That happens a lot, it has happened to me on every item i put on craigslist.

I have even got checks in the mail for $1,000 dollars and then they send an email saying, My secretary mixed up the numbers, you can keep $200, but just send me back $500 and the item. And people have done it! they go and cash the check and its a fake bank, and you just lost $500 dollars to scum in Nigeria.

My dad knows a guy that lost $5,000.
You can usually tell immediately when the grammar in the email is just awefull and they switch from saying he and she.

I had the exact same thing happen when selling a camera a while back. Saw the story and said no.

I get emails at work daily about people in Nigeria wanting to become a distributor for us, etc.: "please send us $10,000 so we can establish a network here."

Sure, I'll get right on it!

Happens all the time. I have learned to spot them fairly easily, as they are typically worded the same.

lol..i had this happen as well. the guy said he was sending a check via fedex, so i gave him my address. the check came! as you guys stated though...it was a $500 bed i was selling and he sent me a check for $3500 or something ridiculous like that.

he then pestered me to send him the balance, but just keep an extra few hundred for myself. kept telling me it was all the money he had and his family couldn't eat and stuff like that.

so..he lost 11 dollars shipping the check to me.

I actually had something similar for a woodstove I was selling via the local newspaper, not even over the internet. Caller contacted me via the deaf communication center to have me contact him by email, when I did and he started saying he would send me extra so I could pay the shipping company, I bailed.

Just had something similar for a Bowflex that we had posted on Craigslist. The buyer was going to send a cashiers check and have a shipping company come and pick it up and was also going to pay EXTRA for the Bowflex and shipping. Sounded like a scam to me.

I was selling my truck on craigslist and received a similar email. He said he would wire me the money and send people to pick up the truck for him(he was supposedly in N. Dakota). I said once payment is made I don't care who gets the truck. He asked for my paypal info and I sent him this https://wumt.westernunion.com/WUCOMWEB/staticMid.do?method=load&pagename=osMIMService Needless to say I did not hear back. For every scammer there is a 1000 suckers!!!!!
