Any tips to keep them alive? I tried 2 sources and they die quickly.

No external symptoms except heavy breathing. Some of them come in skinny.

This is a fish I really want.
It brings back nostalgia.

I used to keep them in Japan and they were easy to keep.


I'm thinking the source or uronema is the problem

I've not had many Pterocaesio tile, but when I got a few, they seemed pretty hardy. I've not seen Uronema in this genus of fish, but maybe? I kept them in 1000 gallon+ tanks, I think they fair less well in smaller tanks.

The rapid breathing may be from some gill parasite. If they arrive thin, then that's a handling/shipping issue. I think you will find a huge difference in the quality of fish in the supply chain between fish from Japan and those from the US or Europe. I think that in Japan, they handle fish much better. Case in point; years ago, I had huge issues with garden eels coming direct from SE Asia. When I got some from Japan, they seemed like totally different fish - they did so much better!
