Gatlinburg fire

I know we have a very active community of Tennessee reefers here and I hope you guys and gals are making it through the fires ok.

I just saw where they did a forced evacuation of the Ripley's aquarium in Gatlinburg because the fires were within 50 yards of the building. They have an estimated 10,000 fish and other animals housed there. The building is still running on a generator (as of last report) so hopefully they make it through intact!

I saw that this morning as well. Bad news, haven't looked at the weather hope some of the rain we got yesterday is heading that way!

Wasn't there a front right in front of the fire line? Saw that southern Georgia was getting some rain yesterday.

They did get some rain yesterday and it helped. They should get another 1"+ tonight so hopefully that will help them gain the upper hand.

I am south west of them, and yesterday was our 2nd measurable rainfall in almost 3 months. To say this part of the country is dry would be an understatement.

It's been dry her in central florida as well, kinda like granny's dressing two days after thanksgiving!

It's been like 12 yrs since I've been to Gatlinburg, but I remember it being gorgeous. A nice stream going right through the town. The Ripley's aquarium was awesome as I recall. I wasn't in the hobby then but it seemed like a well kept facility. Prayers to all impacted.

Well, we got over 3" of rain here last night, and that heavy band should be over Gatlinburg right now. Hopefully this will give that entire region some relief from these fires.

Such sad news about the aquarium, hopefully everyone can stay safe up there. haven't heard about any loss of life yet so that's a plus, seems to be property mostly

+1 ... am heartbroken. I was just there a couple months ago.:(

Maybe I get too sentimental about fish, I mean they're not dogs or cat's but they're still living creatures that depend on you. I personally don't think I could leave them behind if I worked there or something like that. God forbid I ever have to deal with my home being on fire...

I'm with you. They had to force the aquarium workers to leave. They were not willing to abandon the fish and ignored the evacuation orders. The police finally went there and escorted them off the aquarium property.

I read the aquarium made it ok. They are allowing the emergency vet staff to go back in. They also have their florida and buffalo vet staff on standby if they need help. But from what I read, there were no deaths. This was yesterday towards the evening that I read it. I havent seen anything since then.

My wife, daughter and I go to Gatlinburg every year for our vacation. Placing on buying land up there or is so beautiful and relaxing. It's very sad to hear about the places we visit regularly being destroyed and livelihoods lost. We are looking into helping however we can. Glad to hear about the rain
