Pretty good specs, but that shipping is half the price of the PSU. Used one might be good, if it wasn't run hard.

That 750w mean well you linked earlier is a workhorse though. Had one running for almost 3 years non stop.

BTW, I hooked up one of those K16s... Holy cow, even at 700mA they are stupid powerful.

Given the specs I was given earlier, is 12 k16s, 12 warm whites and a bunch of mint and violets totaling 600w too much for a standard 180? Going to do 2 rows of 6 spread out on 2 x 4 foot makerslim heatsinks- mainly because I already have one and a bunch of drivers and power supplies already.

Compared to the 340 watts out of my 3 mars aqua BB’s, seems like way too much. It’s almost a $600 build so if I can tone it down a bit that would be good

I'm pretty far from a voice of authority on the subject as I've just started dabbling in LEDs, but 600w of lighting is a lot of light haha. But then again, SB reef 45 is 440w, so I guess in a grand scheme of things it may be OK.

Also, I probably missed it, but those warm whites you're talking about, are they cobs? Cause if they're 3W LEDs, at only 12 of them, they're going to get crushed by those K16s.

I’m going off of this recommendation. Ends up being a 4:1 blue:white ratio if you count mint as a white without the red wavelengths.

First off 10 k16's will push 93500mW of Royal blue (450nm).. :eek:
Don't think any reasonable amount of small emitters will have any visual impact on the tank.

Adding the violets of course gives you an added wavelength spread.
Mints are just limes w/ more blue (again at 450) Which you certainly already have an abundance of..;)

3 rows of 5 k16's is probably the best pattern.
At about 6" off the water line they only need to be a few inches apart..That's the space for the "colored"

In that inner row I'd pack sunplus whites,violets and possibly some cyan...
single stars..Should be able to get about 40 total.. ;)

sunplus are fairly balanced from cyan to red so adding things like lime or mint isn't very
productive. Or things like PC-amber unless you have a specific wavelength you want to target..

But I’m a little squeamish building that without first seeing the spectral profile from that spectra1023 site. Can’t seem to get it to work

Plus it’s 24 drivers, two 60v 400w power supplies and a mile of wiring...

I might make a 150w array using this arrangement, 3 clusters, on a 16x6 makerslim and use it to cover a 24x24” area on the tank. Then make 2 more if that looks good for a final 450w setup keep the initial cost to <200.

since the chart is "relative" you can see the issue..Larger the blue spike less the rest registers.
Doesn't mean it's gone or can't be "seen" in real life.. just minor..

Chart would be one "cluster"...

It's set to 140 degrees and 240 lumens.. Those can be changed.

Led COBs I used might have been lower quality, but they were $70 total for a 400w, and I got much better numbers. Essentially diode layout similar to photonV2 reef lights, but tweaked.!

I’ll see if I can dig out those profiles- on my old laptop I think, nothing on my phone.

What would you suggest for an led combo?

I got 340W from the fact that a 165w black box actually has 112w consumption at full power x 3. Should be 336w.

This was my starting point last year, before I got busy with another kid-

6 clusters of:

3x 10w 3000k
2x 10w 8000k
2x 10w uv:RB actinic mix con
((4x 3w 450 RB
2x 3w 400 uv))
3x 3W 430 Violet

Each cluster gave me the following chart

If I remember correctly, I had a few members point me this direction. I was in the radion clone thread for a bit which is where I came up with it.
