Correct yes,worst case scenario I will send all my 3ups to Steves and have them reflowed to my likings.
Ok this is a bit of a napkin design.. Yea 9 luxeon c RB's run in series will draw roughly

about 100mA at 2.66 v each. 23.94v .. ( 24V power supply)
So yea 24v ps is pretty soft but low total output to the potential.
With a 24.75V power supply the leds will draw 350mA
2.85V 800mA..25.65.

Just buy the PART #: LRS-35-24 for $12..
Trim it to 13V and add
each 1 ohm resistor dissipates 640 mW
in series at the end.Done..
About 20W..
  • each 1 ohm resistor dissipates 640 mW
  • the wizard thinks the power dissipated in your resistor is a concern
  • together, all resistors dissipate 640 mW
  • together, the diodes dissipate 20520 mW
  • total power dissipated by the array is 21160 mW
  • the array draws current of 800 mA from the source.

48 is just 2x 24.. Doesn't change anything except total output of course.

Keep in mind this is using spec sheets. Would be interesting to see what you measure in amps out and voltage on what you have now..


If you are buying the new leds through led supply might as well throw i the $12 power supply.

This is an example.. With another 3 leds in series your voltage to each drops to 2.67v each
Without the resistor the voltage with the orig 15 is over 3v . Pretty sure you'd damage them.
With the resistor you just waste a bunch as heat and need a decent resistor.

I would be inclined to grab an LDB-L to drive them, it's a buck/boost so can actually go over the power supply. Ledsupply.com has them. I use them to run Bridgelux COBs off of 19 volt laptop power bricks.

I have flowed these Luxeon C Violets onto my new NanoBox arrays. They are great. I have been driving them with LDD-1000s with no issues.
You replaced rebels with c's. Or just the T's ?
OR...You just made new boards..

They just like ldd's are the pinouts the same ?

Nvm I see they are. Also,LS doesn't have them in stock. Ldd's I am finding to be in stock at most places that aren't $10-$15 now.

New boards. Same dimensions as the originals. But updated diodes and a connector for ease of swapping. Yet I have found out wiring up the harness takes longer than just soldering to the pads.

Mouser and Digi-key are my go-to nowadays- Mouser doesn't charge tariff fees, but Digi-key will on Meanwell parts.

I just ordered 6 LDD-1050H drivers from Mouser like two days ago, they were $5.01 each.

I use the LDD-L for almost everything for 36 volts or lower, love them. I only use the H for big stuff or larger COBs.

I still have a bunch of boards and I'm up to six aquariums with more on the way, so I'll be setting up a few more soon.

So,I will just order 2 700 L's then because I am making small arrays nothing crazy. Probably 9-13 leds in total.
If you are using only violets .
2.925v@ 700mA
7@24v ps using ldd.
11@ 36v
15@ 48v

Using the 3v "loss"
48v is the " best" 3 by voltage 3x5
45 /2.925 = 15.38 diodes.

30 watt array

Royal blue is 2.825v @700mA
Many other colors are higher voltages
Odd. Well not the "reddish" side.
Reg blue is 3.32v @700mA.

Point is to keep your color voltages in mind.

I just want to say that I am glad to see this thread still alive. Ive got some catching up to do but I will contribute as much as I can. I would prefer my DIY led lights over what is available the only question is - Are the diy LED's on par with the complete systems. If I DIY a light I want it to be atleast slightly cheaper but much more powerful.

If you a building a smaller light for a pico or nano its worth it. Nowadays you can get a newer 16hd for what it would cost to DIY a light.
Fortunately I was able to catch lots of stuff on sale. I have had 80% of this for atleast 5 years. I am curious if the LED's have improved but regardless I like the ability to DIY and make it how i prefer.

I am with 110%. I have tons and tons of leds,a few heatsinks driver boards and ldd's previous builds stuff I have sold and bought back lol. A few Lux M royals and stuff too.

As far as I know the only recent advancements made were Lux C's but thats about it at least stateside. Oversea's probably tons.

The reason to DIY a light is to get what you want. There are even some optics packages off the shelf which can bridge the gap with a commercial fixture which has a custom molded optics sheet.

As for LEDs, there haven't been any major step functions in efficiency. There are more violet options on the market however, which is nice to see (even in Luxeon C).

You can get flip-chip LEDs (LUXEON Rubix) smaller than a LXC with multi-amps of drive. No optics on top, so you'll probably want an optics package or sheet. The Luxeon C keeps on gaining more colors (colors are rare generally, the mass market is in white or royal blue base LEDs).

Violets/UV that don't die after 5000 hours. ( Suspected)
Luxeon horticulture " purple" ( like the cheap " full spectrum" LEDs that had blue plus broad red phosphors) and hort white

The boost/ buck meanwell ldd drivers.

Some aren't exactly neew, some are " advances" that aren't easily implemente

Still a shortage of high cri 6500k chips in singles.
No problem if you want 100-200 of them.
