General Filter Sock Question

When you change your filter socks, do you you let them drain out most of the way first or do you try to take them out mostly full of water? I noticed with mine, it seems some detritus falls off into the water if I let it drain first, so I was just curious.

I drained and squeezed them out. Why? Cause I don't want to lower the salinity of my tank.
