Getting a Yellow Tang!

I understand why that is not ostensibly exciting news, but considering this is a fish that I have refused to keep for over ten years because it was simply too ordinary this is a big step. What got me to switch is I saw a shoe size yellow and he was stunning! Found one similar and just can’t get over how vibrant yellow almost orange. Here is the WYSIWYG pic of him below. He arrive tomorrow so will keep everyone posted!

Never had one but really enjoyed watching schools of them when snorkeling Hawaii. While common they add a great flash of color and they are very active. Congrats!

I got one from a reef keeper that had a leak in his tank and he decided to sell instead of rebuild. (I offered him to call if he got back into it.) Anyway, it was the first one kept. After that I was hooked. They can be bossy and funny. I currently have 2 juveniles and they can swim next to each other and be fine, then like brothers, fight quick, swim off and then back together. I hope they stay civil enough as adults.
Good luck with the new fish. They are very nice for movement and color if you have the space.

Bigger ones like these are a little more hard to collect. When smaller they hang around the reefs for protection making them relatively easy to collect. When they get bigger they become open water swimmers which are much harder to collect. To collect them divers have to dive at night when the flanger fish have come back to the reef. Night time dives are a little more Ricky as that is when sharks and morays like to hunt.

Exotic FishNTanks! He contracts with divers in Hawaii that do these night dives! Super short supply chain as the fish simply goes from the diver’s holding tanks to his tank! This is my first buying experience with him but very optimistic and excited! Will keep the updates coming!!

I have been away from the hobby for 20 yrs plus, I am in the process of restarting my 110 and all the time I have been thinking I want a Yellow Tang and a Purple Tang. To me they say reef fish and jewels for the tank!!! Post pics of your baby. I will be doing that in a few months!!!

He arrived this morning around 9:45. Packed great. Double blacked out bags. No leak. Acclimated well and is now in QT/conditioning tank. Will take some pictures this evening and post! He is huge and stunning!!!

I’ve got a shoal or 7 yellow tangs in my new system and there absolutely stunning as they shoal around together.

There may favourite fish of all with their vibrant colour

Hopefully not but I don’t suspect it will be a problem. There is a large Vlamingi in there who acts as referee!
