I have tried everything to get them to eat seaweed. They will eat my sis and brine all day long, but won’t touch seaweed. Any tips to get them to eat it?

Which Tangs do you currently have? As a last resort, if you had a friend who could 'lend' you a known-eater, often they will monkey-see, monkey-do, learn to eat Nori from watching others. 😂

I use a magnet algae clip and just add nori sheets folded up.
I don't remember back when I first started using the algae clip. But the tangs just found it and learned they like it.
( actually we used to use romaine lettuce back in the day rubber banded to rocks.)
They should find it eventually.

Id slow down on the mysis. they will eat it if they're hungry enough.

in my experience, i just clip a piece to the glass and leave it. if they dont eat it after a day, id change it out for another fresh one - rinse and repeat.

As far as Tangs go, Hippos are not top Algae eaters. I have a lot of Algae (mostly turf) in my Tank so never feed Nori. The big eaters are any of the Bristletooth's. They are Algae eating machines. My Hippo will eat Algae, but doesn't graze all day long like my other Tangs.

I don't consider a hippo tang much of an algae eater compared to other tangs. I see all the other tangs grazing all day long but the hippo is more inclined to look for food floating in the water column. They seem to eat Nori a little more once they are bigger.

truthfully mine we're lukewarm on Nori for a long time as they seemed overly concerned about the algae clip. A few years later I have to stick it on as fast as possible as they're attacking the clip before I can get the magnet on the glass.
Offer it on a regular basis and they'll come around.

Mine (powder blue, hippo and purple) are afraid of the clip. I cut purple seaweed into bite size pieces and they go crazy for it.

Having many tangs, they either take to it or dont. You cant force them to eat it but brushing some garlic extract on the seaweed may entice them

I have tried that once. Probably need to be more consistent with it.

Maybe add another tang in the future. I agree with the monkey see, monkey do comment. Ive had tangs not touch nori in QT but once they join the main DT and see my other tangs destroy nori they're right there doing the same.

I always put a sheet in there folded up on a clip and everyone eats it including the emperor, harlequin tusk and emperor. Lineatus usually tears a bunch off and what is floating in the water column the hippo tang eats.

Agree with the rubberband to rock technique. I also like the red sea veggies better than the green or purple, it is actual dried seaweed leaves and the other two are sheets of pressed seaweed, the red doesn't dissolve as quickly if not eaten.

The best place to get them to understand nori is in a QT tank before you get ready to put them into your DT. Thats if you QT your fish. My Paki Butterfly is a mysis eating machine. But that is about it. Picks at other types of small things in the water column but spits it out. So i have to spot feed him! Kinda annoying haha.
